Frutex scandens, ramulis nigricantibus vel griseis rugulosis pubescentibus; paries
novclloj dense fulvo-tomentosai. Folia utrinqne obtusa, basi interdunv subcordata,
apice acuta, rarius in acumen breve subulatum augustata, tenuiier coriacea, 3-6 poll,
louga, 2-3 lata, majora pedalia, 5 poll, lata, pctiolo T-p°U., supra'opaca; neryi sub-
curvati, subtus prominul'. Flares axillares, solitarii vel plcrumque in paniculam
terminalem 5-6-floram congesti, dense Mvo-tomeutosi. Pedicetti pollicares et ultra,
infra medium bracteolas 1-2 jparvas ovatas gereutes. Sepala lata, vix lineam longa.
Petala exteriora, ultrapollicaria, extus tomentosa, intus cincreo-incana, ovali-oblonga;
iiiteriora paullo breviora, angustiora3 c basi ovali concava, in rostrum longe 'trique-
trum producta, dorso ciuerea, intus subglabra. Torus inter stamina glaber, inter
ovaria dense strigosus. Processes conuectivi oblongus. Ovaria dense strigosa,
stigmate puberulo. Carpella 5-10 vel plura, rulvo-totnentosa, pollicaria. Semina
Inserialia, nitida, septis tenuibus separata; testa atro-fasca.

We have not seen fruiting specimens of this fine species, and have in consequence
followed Blurnolti that part of our cli-.-cripiion. The species, 1 hough cuiiined in con-
iiiiciital India to 1lic cxtivuie southern paj-t of the Malayan Peninsula, seems abun-
dant io the eastward. Cuniinpi's Pliiltppiue sjicoimcns are slightly different, in
hiving; more numerous flowers, fonning a sort of pauiclc beyond the loaves.
